With the aim of promoting the formation of para sports groups for children with disabilities, popularizing para sports in Latvia, and ensuring quality leisure time, the first para sports camp for children and youth took place in Valmiera. The event was organized by the association “Children and Youth Para Sports Association” with the support of the LNK Charity Fund.

Over the course of three days, children and youth with disabilities from Riga, Ikšķile, Saulkrasti, Liepāja, and Valmiera participated in various sports and leisure activities. The camp program included swimming, table tennis, boccia, badminton, archery, elements of boxing, curling, and general physical fitness classes. Alongside sports training, educational games, excursions, and creative workshops were organized.

In total, 30 people participated in the camp, including children and youth with disabilities, their assistants, coaches, and volunteers. Participants had the opportunity not only to improve their physical fitness and try different sports but also to meet peers with similar interests and find inspiration for an active lifestyle.

During the camp, constructive discussions took place with representatives of Valmiera municipality and local sports specialists about launching regular para sports classes in the city. Parents expressed significant interest in continuing sports activities after the camp, and several children willing to participate in regular training sessions were identified.

Valmiera, with its well-adapted and inclusive sports infrastructure, provided a safe and motivating environment for all participants. This project highlighted the importance of developing similar initiatives in regional areas, where there is substantial potential for the growth of para sports.
